# ThisisClimateChange Solidarity Sit-Down (Adelaide)

Our Government’s inaction on the climate crisis is contributing to catastrophic fire conditions. People are hurting. Communities are being devastated. And summer hasn’t even begun. But rather than take real action on the climate crisis, all our Government offers is their thoughts, prayers and more support for coal, oil and gas projects. On November 29, join all of us at Solidarity Sit-Downs to demand increased support for Indigenous land management and the Rural Fire Service and real climate action 1. No new coal, oil and gas projects 2. 100% renewable energy and exports by 2030 3. Funding for a just transition and jobs for fossil fuel workers and communities

School students in Melbourne, and across the country, are hosting a solidarity vigil event to show our nationwide support to the survivors of the bushfire crisis across the country. Together, with you, we’d like to recognise the hard work and support of frontline communities, fire services, charities NGOs, and all emergency services and individuals during this time. We’d also like to use this opportunity to acknowledge and support those who have experienced loss due to the fires and pay a tribute to the people who have tragically passed away.

Climate Classroom Rally - Canberra

Greta Thunberg has called for a global climate strike on November 29th and so local SS4C groups are organising actions in their communities in solidarity In Canberra we are organising an event ONE DAY EARLY on the 28th on the lawns of Parliament House instead, as Parliament will be sitting then! The action will be a “climate classroom”: a community forum for anyone interested to learn about and discuss the climate crisis in protest of the government’s inaction and to remind them what real democracy looks like. The aim of the action is to show the Australian Parliament what real democracy looks like; teaching each other about the climate crisis and working together to address it as an inclusive community. The action will not be run as a typical rally but more similar to a festival with participants welcome to come and mingle on the lawns of Parliament House and get involved in the different activities and stalls.

Connecting Transition Worldwide

Join Transition Network (International) to share stories of the global pandemic now – its impacts, how we are responding and what it means for the transition we seek to support. Tuesday 9th June 6pm AEST (4pm WA, 5.30pm SA) Two months ago the Transition Network together with the Transition Hubs Group hosted two Connecting Transitions online calls as part of our response to the global pandemic. Around 140 people from 28 countries came together to pause, reflect and connect. We talked about how we were experiencing the pandemic, and how we and our communities were responding. In such a short time much has changed, although most of us live with ongoing uncertainty about the impacts of the pandemic on us, our communities, and the world. We experienced something particularly powerful in connecting internationally, and we’d like to open up another space for people involved in Transition groups to make meaning together. Our aims for this Connecting Transitions call are: - To hear how the pandemic is affecting people and communities in our different parts of the world. - To share experiences and information about the ways in which our groups and communities are responding to the pandemic and its immediate and long-term impacts. - To consider what our role as Transitioners and Transition groups might be in these times, and the times and crises to come.

We will look at the Transition Streets framework and how it might be able to add a ‘hyper-local’ aspect to your Transition Agenda. To be effective at working together to address the world’s most wicked problems of climate change, consumption, waste and fragile communities we need to meet, engage and share what we are doing and how we can make it more powerful. Each month we choose a different focus to guide our conversations, that touch on ideas of inner transition, real democracy, ‘hot’ issues or the opportunity to learn more about what Transition and other sustainability groups are doing around the country This month we are going to look at how we engage with democracy. This could be at many different levels from how you can push the narrative and engage effectively with your local council to how new approaches to the democratic process can be a form of activism itself.

We are school students from cities and towns across Australia. Most of us have never met in person before but are united by our concern about our planet. School Strike 4 Climate

Climate change is intensifying the risk of flooding and heavy rainfall and SS4C is calling on the Government to take our future seriously and treat climate change as what it is: a crisis. The Morrison Government could be protecting our climate, land and water, and creating thousands of new jobs by growing Australia’s renewable energy sector and backing First Nations solutions to protect Country. Instead, they are lining the pockets of multinational gas companies, which are fueling the climate crisis, devastating our land and water, wrecking our health and creating very few jobs.  On May 21, we’re striking to tell the Morrison Government that if they care about our future, they must stop throwing money at gas.

World Localization Day

COVID-19 has caused a fundamental rethink of the global economy. Failing supply lines have called into question the wisdom of depending, even for our most basic needs, on production the other side of the world--a dependence that undermines local communities everywhere and places intolerable stress on the environment. At the same time, many people have come to appreciate the value of a slower-paced, less stressful life: one that offers more time for friends and family, for baking, for growing a garden, and for becoming more aware than ever before of the importance of our physical health. From sad experience, we now understand that wellbeing is the ultimate priority.Public opinion seems to have turned firmly against going back to “business as usual”. So where do we go instead Join Helena Norberg-Hodge, Director of Local Futures and an astounding array of guest including Russell Brand, Charles Eisenstein, Vandana Shiva, Johann Hari, Damon Gameau and many more to explore how the way of the future is local.
