This summary sets out the key points about how Transition Australia handles personal information.
We collect, use, disclose and manage personal information to carry out our functions or activities in accordance with our Rules of Association.

Collection of your personal information

We collect personal information to carry out our functions and activities in accordance with the Purposes set out in our Rules of Association. These essentially relate to supporting Transition Towns and other not-for-profit organisations in Australia that are working to advance an ecologically regenerative and socially just future.
We usually collect information directly from you. This may include your name, contact details, and information you choose to provide such as your areas of interest or activity and your group affiliation.
We sometimes collect personal information from a third party or a publicly available source, usually in situations that you would reasonably expect (such as to identify a group’s contact person).
We also collect personal information through our websites and social media services such as Facebook. We use this information to improve our website and receive feedback from the community. Third party sites have their own privacy policies for collecting and handling personal information.

Use and disclosure

We generally use and disclose your personal information in ways you’d expect. This includes for the primary purpose you provided the information, reasonably expected secondary purposes, where required by law, or otherwise by consent.
Common uses and disclosure of personal information include processing membership applications, registering you to attend an event, answering your inquiry or request for information, granting access to protected areas of our website (such as where you’re an editor of a group sub-site), and assessing the performance of our website and improving its functionality.
Generally, we only disclose your personal information overseas where we use a cloud service that is bound by the Australian privacy law or has other measures in place to ensure adequate privacy safeguards are in place to protect your information. Our website server and CRM service provider are based in Australia.
We do not provide your personal information to direct marketers.

Accessing and correcting your personal information

If you ask, in most cases we must give you access to the personal information we hold about you and take reasonable steps to correct it if we consider it is incorrect. We will try and make the process as simple as possible.

You can make a complaint to us in writing about how we have handled your personal information. We will endeavour to respond in a timely and appropriate manner.
