Climate Adaptation Requires Youth Action (CARYA) is a program bringing together a courageous, cross cultural group of 18-29 year olds (or mature 16-17 year olds!) who are concerned about the effects of the climate crisis and want to connect with others to take action.
The 10 week training program will offer significant experiences in environmental education, aiming to highlight the broad range of challenges that we face as the climate emergency escalates. After the training finishes, the group will take action towards a local climate adaption initiative, or start their own with the support of Banksia Gardens Community Services.
The CARYA training will run once a week (most likely on a Thursday evening) from mid October until mid December. Given the uncertainty and restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are planning to deliver this course online. If restrictions are lifted, there is the possibility of gathering for in-person sessions and excursions, so your commitment may also involve some weekend travel to learn about climate change at various sites around (and outside of) Melbourne.
There is no cost to participate in the CARYA program. Travel costs will be covered as part of the training.
