About Us

Permaculture Out West (POW) is a network of people living in the western suburbs of Melbourne, learning and practising Permaculture. Our members live in Footscray, West Footscray, Maidstone, Braybrook, Seddon, Kingsville, Werribee, Moonee Ponds and beyond.POW has a vision for a nurturing empowered and resilient western suburbs.

We want environmental sustainability and self-sufficiency to be facilitated through local initiatives such as food swaps, cooperatives and working bees. POW wants to bring the resources of the community together; to bring good ideas into fruition. We organise a range of activities, including workshops, permabees, open garden tours and social events. We can also help facilitate projects and organise people around community issues.

You don’t need to be a Permaculture expert to join POW. Some of our members have Permaculture Design Certificates and extensive gardening experience, even more of our members are novice gardeners who are keen to learn. All are welcome. But even if you not a gardener, Permaculture is about lot more than agriculture. Permaculture can be applied to all aspects of human society. Membership details are at http://pow.org.au/index.php/pow-membership/.

Our interests and activities are inspired by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren’s ground breaking work, Permaculture One. If you are looking for somewhere to start, we highly recommend Rosemary Marrow’s book, The Earth Users Guide to Permaculture.
