TTV Movie Night – Night Calling

Monday 20th of April 2026 6:15 pm

Night Calling is a 2024 Australian documentary by filmmaker Sue Taylor that highlights the plight of the rare Masked Owl (Yornitj) in Western Australia. It showcases Dr. Boyd Wykes’ efforts to protect these birds, which are dying due to eating rodent-poisoned prey, and celebrates the Margaret River community’s shift to “Owl Friendly” methods.

Recently the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority has declared second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides a restricted chemical product. This has been followed by announcements by major retailers such as Bunnings, Coles and Woolworths that they will be removing these rodenticides from their shelves.

The screening will be followed by a short clip on the impact of rodenticides and a Q&A with wildlife researcher, Dr Robert Davis from Edith Cowan University, who has contributed to the recent landmark decision by the Federal pesticides regulator.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead.
