Making and using biochar in your garden
Wednesday 15th of April 2026 4:00 pm
Biochar aka charcoal is a type of resistant carbon which can last in soil for hundreds to thousand of years. Found naturally in areas such as bushland it can significantly improve soil function. In urban environments, where carbon has been significantly depleted from soil, it needs to be added to improve soil function.
In this 2 hour workshop learn from members of Transition Town Vincent’s soil hub:
- the different forms of soil carbon
- the characteristics of biochar
- how can biochar enhance your soil function
- how to make biochar
- how to inoculate biochar
- different ways of using it in your garden
This workshop will feature a demonstration of of biochar making. Children under 18 will need to be supervised by an adult. Sample bags (200ml) of biochar will be supplied free. Larger quantities will be available for purchase. Register here https://events.humanitix.com/making-and-using-biochar-in-your-garden
